Calcium is vital for building healthy bones and teeth and ensuring that the heart, nerves and muscles work properly.
When it comes to calcium, the first food that comes to mind is milk. But, there are some other options that contain more calcium than a glass of milk.
Tofu: Tofu is a low-fat, protein-laden, cholesterol-free plant-based food that is an excellent choice for vegetarians and vegans.
Seeds: Many seeds such as poppy, celery, sesame and chia seeds are high in calcium including other nutrients as well.
Yogurt: Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium while being rich in probiotics that keep your gut healthy. Low fat yogurt may even be higher in calcium.
Sardines and canned salmon: Sardines and canned salmon have edible bones that are a loaded with calcium. These oily fish also provide the body with omega-3 fatty acids.
Beans and lentils: Apart from being a rich source of protein and fiber, beans and lentils have a decent amount of calcium as well.
Almonds: Out of all the nuts, almonds have the highest calcium content. They also are fiber-rich with healthy fats and protein.
